If your why is a result – it won’t work.
If your motivation is held in the result alone, it won’t actually work for you when the going gets tough.
Your motivation should be living with hope and inspiration.
Your motivation should be feeling happy in moments that don’t make sense.
Your motivation should be feeling better and finding relief
Your motivation should be seeing yourself for the first time in a while.
Motivation is not a feeling that suddenly makes you a different person.
When you connect to a strong why, it will empower you to hang in there when the going gets tough. It gives you a reason to make a tough choice that doesn’t feel good.
The results are sometimes very far away. It takes time to overcome and achieve things, so you need something else to help get you through.
For example, if I am going back to school – the degree is the goal — not the motivation. The motivation needs to be more immediate so it helps you in the moments when it is tough to study. The part of me that is coming full circle and showing myself how smart and determined I am is what is pushing me forward in the moments today. The overcoming of something that I have felt insecure about is giving me the confidence and motivating me to do more.
You value helps to drive the motivation within you.
Sometimes the value within yourself is how you find the motivation. Being a mom can lead to a different perspective in your mindset that propels you farther than perhaps you would have gotten without your kids relying on you.
Your “why” is personal. It will be different for each of us and also different depending on the current life phase we are in.
When your “why” answers the deepest doubts within you, that is the true power of motivation. When you can face the fear and overcome those moments with your values and your desires, that is how you build confidence and make different choices that lead to different results.
Much like inspiration expires, so does your motivation. The same inspirations and motivations aren’t meant to work again and again.
Ask yourself: What is your reason, your value, and your WHY today?
“Your why should answer the deepest doubts within yourself.”
